Nakisa Kiai, MD

Dr. Nakisa Kiai (she/her/hers) is currently completing her dual fellowships in public psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry at UCSF, where she also serves as a Chief Fellow. Dr. Kiai received her BSc. at the University of British Columbia and her M.D. at Ross University. She then went on to complete her psychiatry residency at UCLA-Kern in Bakersfield at a safety-net hospital within the county’s behavioral health system.

Nakisa’s clinical interests include community mental health, with a focus on improving the lives of individuals experiencing serious mental illness. She is dedicated improving mental health care access for underserved and underrepresented populations, including minoritized youth and families.

Outside of work, Nakisa enjoys teaching and practicing yoga, crocheting and caring for her several dozen houseplants, two cats, and a dog.

Thara Nagarajan, MD

Thara Nagarajan, MD (she/her) is a child and adolescent psychiatrist. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she developed her interests in pediatric psychiatry, and specifically with working with minoritized and LGBTQ+ youth. Thara completed her adult psychiatry residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and then completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. 

Throughout her career, Thara has been involved in several diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives during her training, from curriculum development during residency, to research projects centered around mental health outcomes and minoritized youth, to being part of DEI focused leadership initiatives. Thara has specific clinical, educational, and research interests in minority stress, maternal and child mental health, asylum seeker/refugee mental health with a focus on Middle Eastern refugee populations, and gender affirming care.

She is currently a staff psychiatrist with the Department of Public Health in San Francisco, working in intensive outpatient/WRAP services for children, families, and transitional aged youth.  In her spare time, she enjoys engaging in LGBTQ+ community events, trying new restaurants, thrifting, yoga, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

 


 

Eri Yamaguchi, MD

 

 

Eri Yamaguchi, MD (she/her) grew up in Honolulu, HI. She then earned her B.A. at Boston University and her M.D. at John A. Burns School of Medicine. There, she leaned into her love of people and the human experience. She went on to graduate from the Harbor-UCLA Psychiatry residency program in Torrance, CA where she primarily worked with minoritized, uninsured, and underinsured members of the community. She is currently completing the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program at UCSF.

Eri’s professional interests include immigrant and refugee mental health as well as community psychiatry. She volunteers at the Human Rights Collaborative clinic where she conducts Forensic Mental Health Evaluation for those seeking asylum in the United States.

Er’s personal interests include hiking, live music, traveling, and trying very hard to be a good plant mom.
